Hangu: Three police officers, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Operations Asad Zubair, lost their lives on Thursday in twin bomb blasts that targeted a police vehicle in the Hangu district.
Officials reported that the first explosion occurred near a check-post in the Gulmina area but fortunately caused no casualties. Shortly after this incident, as SP Asad Zubair and his team were on their way to assess the situation, their vehicle was hit by a second explosive device near Darban.
The second blast resulted in the instant deaths of SP Asad Zubair and two other officers, while two more sustained injuries. The injured personnel were promptly shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Hangu for medical attention.
Following the explosions, security forces swiftly cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to locate those responsible for the attack.
Authorities stated that the incident appeared to be a coordinated assault designed to target responding officers. Investigations are underway to determine whether the explosives had been planted in advance or were detonated remotely.
This tragic incident occurs against the backdrop of a spike in militant attacks across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police and security officials continue to face heightened risks in the ongoing battle against terrorism.
