Rs25 billion allocated for the reconstruction of Karachi’s roads and streets

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday allocated Rs25 billion for the reconstruction of 315 inner streets and 60 major roads in Karachi, instructing relevant agencies to commence work immediately. He emphasized incorporating sewerage and drainage systems alongside the road projects.

During a high-level meeting focused on the restoration of roads and streets across the city, the chief minister also called for the installation and repair of streetlights throughout Karachi. Additionally, he mandated that all newly constructed streets be equipped with proper drainage systems.

The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, and Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah.

Highlighting the deteriorating condition of Karachi’s roads due to recent heavy rains, CM Murad stressed that ongoing mega development projects were contributing to traffic woes but underscored the need to accelerate progress. He warned that delays in the work would not be tolerated.

Mayor Wahab informed the chief minister that 315 internal streets required immediate repairs, while 60 major roads across the city are slated for reconstruction under a Rs25 billion development plan.

CM Murad instructed officials to approve the street repair projects without delay and ensure swift implementation. He reassured attendees that funding would not be an issue, placing a strong emphasis on the urgency and quality of the work for the city’s residents.

He further noted that initiatives like the Sindh Safe City Project have already contributed to reducing traffic incidents in Karachi.
