During last hearing, the accountability court had directed the investigation officer to provide all case documents to the accused so the charges could be framed against them.

However, a day before the hearing, the former minister fell ill yesterday and was admitted in Jinnah hospital.

Sources said that Sharjeel will not appear before the accountability court for today’s hearing due to illness. As he is unlikely to show up for hearing, the indictment will also be postponed.

Sharjeel lawyers said that they had submitted application in the accountability court seeking exemption for his personal appearance due to his illness.

It is to be mentioned here that Sharjeel Memon and others accused were charged in the NAB reference of misusing power and authority and embezzlement in distribution of government advertisements amounting to over Rs 5billion.

Information Department officials including Zulfiqar Ali Shalwani, Mansoor Ahmed and others are co-accused in the Rs5 billion corruption case.

Memon has recently returned to Pakistan and joined the trial as he was in self-exile in London for over a year after law-enforcement agencies launched a crackdown against politicians and bureaucrats on various corruption cases.

Memon is currently on pre-arrest bail granted by Sindh High Court.
