Rs5bn corruption refrence: Sharjeel Memon will return to Pakistan to face court

KARACHI: Former Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has decided to return to the country to face corruption cases filed against him by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The PPP leader and former minister has been abroad for over an year as NAB has filed corruption references against him. On Wednesday, an accountability court had issued non-bailable arrest warrant against him and others in a Rs5 billion corruption reference.

Following the non-bailable arrest warrant, the minister has decided to return to country and face the cases.

It is to be mentioned here that the court had issued arrest warrants of 17 accused – including former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Memon – in a corruption case. The court ordered the authorities concerned to produce all the accused on 19th of this month.

The national accountability court-IV judge Judge Muhammad Saad Qureshi issued warrants in the Rs5 billion corruption scam. The judge directed the investigation officer of NAB to arrest and produce the former minister and other accused in the court by next date of hearing.

Memon and other have been accused of alleged illegal award of advertisements and misappropriation of provincial government’s funds.
