ISLAMABAD: The Religious Affairs Minister cancelled the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s membership of Mufti Abdul Qavi.
It is to be mentioned here that Federal Minister for Religious Affairs had suspended the membership of Mufti Qavi after the controversy over the cleric’s ‘selfie’ with model Qandeel Baloch. Bloch was later murdered allegedly by his brothers.
The Ministry issued a notification regarding cancellation of Qavi’s membership of the central moon sighting body.
Other responsibilities of the cleric in Pakistan Madrassah Board and the Ministry have also been withdrawn.
Sources said that the membership was cancelled on the recommendations of the investigation committee formed to probe the ‘selfie controversy’.
The sources said that the committee had proposed the cleric to tender apology over his conduct, but he refused to do so.
It is to be mentioned here that the selfie of Mufti Abdul Qavi with model Qandeel Baloch invited controversy and Mufti was severely criticised by the media following which his membership was suspended on June 22, 2016.
