KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is expected to announce its latest monetary policy on Monday, according to official sources.
The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will convene under the leadership of SBP Governor Jameel Ahmed to review both domestic and global economic conditions before deciding on the benchmark policy rate.
During the meeting, the committee will analyze important economic indicators along with the prevailing international economic environment. Following the assessment, the central bank will release its monetary policy decision through an official press statement.
A recent survey conducted by Topline Research suggests that the majority of analysts anticipate no change in the policy rate. Around 92 percent of experts believe the interest rate will remain unchanged at 10.50 percent.
However, a small number of analysts expect a possible increase of 25 to 50 basis points, while two percent of respondents predict a larger hike ranging from 50 to 100 basis points. According to the survey, none of the experts foresee a reduction in the interest rate, mainly due to the sharp rise in global oil prices.
