SC Adjourns Hearing of Imran Disqualification Case till 26th

Islamabad (Sep 12, 2017):  The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned hearing of the petition filed by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi seeking disqualification of PTI chief Imran Khan for concealing offshore company and receiving funding for party from prohibited sources till September 26, 2017.

When three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar resumed hearing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s disqualification case today, PTI chairman’s counsel Naeem Bukhari informed the bench that his client had submitted  reply as per the court orders.

To this, the chief justice remarked that IK has still to submit the missing financial details of Imran’s Bani Gala property.

“Where are the details of funds sent by Jemima for the Bani Gala property purchase,” asked the chief justice.

During the proceeding, Akram Sheikh accused PTI of tempering with the documents. Upon this the Chief Justice remarked that the court can order inquiry or investigation on disputed facts.

When the CJ inquired from Bukhari that there were some missing links in the money trail of Bani Gala property, he replied  that they had tried to fill the missing links in the miscellaneous application.

Akram Sheikh said that many documents were not submitted along with the miscellaneous application. He added that Imran and Rashid Khan’s affidavits had been removed from the application.

The CJ remarked that the PTI chairman’s reply did not include details of how the property was purchased in Jemima’s name. You need to satisfy the court regarding the 160,000 pounds, the chief justice remarked further.

In response to a query by the chief justice, Bukhari replied that the 2002 nomination papers of Imran state that the Bani Gala estate is in Jemima’s name.

Justice Bandial observed that a discrepancy exists between documents submitted by the PTI chairman earlier and now.

Moreover, the chief justice observed during the course of hearing that the PTI chairman has submitted copies of documents that are unverified.

Bukhari assured the bench he will try his best to satisfy the court.

The hearing was adjourned until September 26.

The petition was filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Hanif Abbasi and is being heard by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Umar Ata Bandial.

The petition asks for the disqualification of Imran Khan and PTI Secretary General Jahangir Tareen for the non-disclosure of assets, ownership of offshore companies and for PTI being a foreign-funded party.

The last hearing for the case was held on August 3, after which it was postponed until further notice.

Before the case was adjourned in August, the bench had also summoned, for the second time, a copy of Imran Khan’s passport for verification of the ‘non-resident’ status.
