SC Angered at DG NAB Balochistan Naeem Mangi

Islamabad (Sep 6, 2017): Calling NAB a facilitator of corruption the Supreme Court expressed anger and lack of confidence at D G NAB Balochistan Naeem Mangi while hearing the misuse of power case against former Food Minister Balochistan Asfandyar Kakar. The court granted Rs 5 million bail each in two cases against Kakar.

A three-member bench of the apex court was hearing a petition seeking bail of former Balochistan food minister Asfandyar Kakar who was arrested by NAB earlier this year on charges of embezzlement.

“Important cases in Balochistan have seen long delays,” Justice Dost Mohammad, who was presiding over the apex bench, said during the hearing.

Expressing anger at Naeem Mangi Justice Dost Muhammad Khosa said that Naeem Mangi who was undergoing an inquiry has now become a hero. However, no action could be taken against Naeem Mangi due to the court order.

The situation would get better when the cases are being made against the personnel of NAB, Justice Dost Muhammad added.

Justice Qazi Faez Essa commented that the law is being made fun of by those whose salaries are being paid by the people. Why DG NAB Balochistan should not be made an accomplice in the case, many important cases of NAB are pending hearing in Balochistan, even those caught red handled get freed in Balochistan, he added.

The judge added that NAB authorities were misusing the law and matters could only be improved by opening cases against them.

Justice Mohammad, however, said that due to Mangi’s involvement in the Panamagate JIT, he could not be included in the case against the former provincial minister.

“Those caught red-handed in Balochistan are released by NAB. The bureau has made a joke of all corruption cases,” Justice Essa remarked, adding that the trials due to be completed within 30 days do not get wrapped up even in 30 months.

The NAB, he continued, has to complete trial within 30 days but they do not get finished even within 30 months wand NAB continues sleeping despite a mega sum of Rs 771 million stolen.

“Those who draw a salary from the taxpayer’s money are abusing the law,” Justice Essa said.

The apex court granted bail to the former provincial minister against a surety of Rs5m.

It may be mentioned here that in April last year NAB Executive Board had approved to file corruption references against former minister of Baluchistan Asfandyar Kakar and his accomplices.
