Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Wawda on Friday sought unconditional apology from Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on submitting false affidavit regarding the American nationality and voluntarily resigned from the Senate seat.

A three-member bench in chair of Chief Justice (CJ) Umar Atta Bandiyal heard the Faisal Vawda affadavit case.

During course of the hearing, CJ holding conversation with petitioner Faisal Vawda directed him “say that you were not eligible as per the law to become member of assembly at that time.”

The CJ said that you filed application on June 15, 2018 to give up your American nationality but didn’t quit the US citizenship. In case you admit your wrong doing you will be considered disqualified from start of the tenure of the existing National Assembly.

On the top court questioning, Faisal Vawda apprised that he gave up dual nationality on June 25, 2018 and tendered resignation from the NA seat on March 30, 2021.

The CJ said ” you misled all the people by keeping the National Assembly (NA) membership for three years and directed Faisal Vawda first seek apology and then tender resignation.”

The CJ giving warning to him remarked that in case you don’t resign, action will be taken against you under 62 1-5.

Faisal Vawda seeking unconditional apology from the SC said that he had no intention of giving a false affadavit, however, whatever the court decides it will be acceptable to him.

Justice Ayesha Malik remarked that what ever said to you “say in the in front of court” after whcih Faisal Vawda said that ” I admits that I tendered resignation with good intention and accepts disqualification under article 63 1-C.”

The SC recognizing Faisal Vawda unconditional apology annulled the earlier verdict of his life time disqualification and declared him disqualified for five years.
