SC approves bails of Imran Khan in eight cases related to May 9

Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday, today, approved bail petitions of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan in an eight cases related to May 9, 2023 and ordered his release if not booked in any other case.

The SC three-member bench chaired by Chief Justice (CJ) Yahya Afridi also annulled the Lahore High Court (LHC) verdict.

The CJ also called counsils of both the parties in his chamber at 1 pm.

Honourable CJ said that the written decision of the petitions will be written in the presence of both the parties counsels.

Before this, the bench hearing the case brought a single change as Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi replaced Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb.

During hearing of the case, the special prosecutor Zulfiqar Naqvi informed the court that the could not appeared before the court owing to his deteriorated health condition to which the CJ said no issue.

The CJ in his conversation to the both the counsels, said both of you have read the verdict of the LHC, now the court wanted to ask you two questions.

Can a findings can be given in the bail petitions? the CJ questioned, later he asked his second question, did the SC give a bail a conspiracy case in the past?.will a principle of continuity will apply on this case?

The special prosecutor Zulfiqar Naqvi said that the court gives a kind of an interim observation in case of the bail petitions which doesn’t affect the trial.

He added that the SC has given directions regarding a bail which are followed sometime and some time not.

The special prosecutor read out the verdict of the bail approved in the Aijaz Chaudhry case during the course of the hearing.
