Islamabad: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday called the details of the re-poll at the Chairman seat in the local bodies election of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
During the course of the hearing Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandiyal remarked that the constitutional and legal institutions should be independent and autonomous.
Chief Justice, who took charge of top Judge yesterday after retirement of Justice Gulzar Ahmed, said that we wanted transparent process of the elections and free of any pressure.
The CJ clarified that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) work should not be rubber stamp so that matters remained lingering for years.
Petitioner counsel Latif Khosa said that only on a single polling station zero vote was casted while voting were normal on all the polling stations.
To which, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said that firing incident reported outside the women polling station and asked the counsel what your input on this? As per the returning officer report ,law and order situation disturbed very much and due to this re-polling was ordered and one person died in the firing incident what will you say on this? The women not left their houses for casting their votes due to fear.
Chief Justice addressing to the counsel said that there was total 108 polling stations in the constituency and you won as well.
Director General (DG) Law Of ECP insisted the court to give some time for submitting the response.
The court adjourned the hearing till February 8.
