SC to call politicians representative tomorrow in case seeking elections across country on same day

Islamabad: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has called representatives of politicians tomorrow in the hearing of the ministry of defence petition seeking general elections on the same date all across the country while the CJ said that if all the political parties come to same page then the court can create a room.

The SC three member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandiyal heard the various petitions regarding elections in Punjab and Khbyer Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the ministry of defence petition holding general elections countrywide on same day.

Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan apprised the court that the parliament has authority to approve grants while the assembly has given its opinion through approving the resolutions.

Chief Justice Umar Attaa Bandiyal has said to the attorney general try to understand that the matter is grim while he expected that the government will review its decision adding that the results of the matter can be extraordinary.

The CJ said that the ECP says the elections can’t be held in October and election be conducted in the country at the same time. He said that the issues of security were persisted in the past but elections were held.

The honourable CJ said that the judicial action started on March 27 and its verdict announced on April 4 while the judicial process was boycotted but the issue of security not raised by any one.

The Attorney General informed the court Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has held meeting with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif while he will also meet with Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman with an effort to start political dialogue in the country.

Mansoor Usman Awan insisted the court that if court were given time then the matter can be solved. To which, the CJ replied that nothing can be happened unilaterally.

The CJ said that under the constitution holding of elections within 90 days is mandatory. The CJ has urged political parties to become part of the hearing through their representatives and we will call them in the court.

The court adjourned the further hearing of the case till 11:30 am tomorrow.
