ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered Pakistan International Airlines to release pension arrears covering 24 years to a retired employee.
The directive came during the hearing of a petition filed by former PIA worker Mustafa Ansari, who argued that despite being granted pension and related benefits following a ruling by the Sindh High Court, he has yet to receive the accumulated dues.
The court also summoned the airline’s managing director in a personal capacity, warning of strict action if the payments are not made before the next hearing.
During proceedings, Justice Shahid Waheed questioned whether any legal provision allows withholding pension payments. The petitioner’s counsel maintained that other retired employees are receiving pensions, while PIA’s lawyer said further instructions from the organisation were needed regarding the release of funds.
The three-member bench, headed by Justice Shahid Waheed, adjourned the case until the next hearing, directing that the dues be cleared promptly to avoid further action.
