ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered concerned authorities to take action against those responsible for illegal appointment in Sindh’s Health Department.

During the hearing of a case of illegal appointments in Health Department Sindh, a division being of the apex court headed by Chief Justuice Anwar Zaheer Jamali rejected the reply submitted by Secretary Health Sindh over the illegal appointments.

The court was told by Advocate General Sindh that instead of 84 some 64 people were appointed illegally. He added that an inquiry committee was conducting probe into the appointments.

He added that under the Sindh Local Governments Act, District Hleath Officer can make appointments in the department by BPS-15.

Upon this, Justice Hani remarked it means appointments at district level were made without the consent of the department.

The court reprimanded the AG Sindh for appearing before the court without proper preparation.  The court remarked that the feeling of what the poor and those fulfilling merit would do in the prevailing system was perplexing the court.

Regarding non-payment of salaries to employees the court was told that bill of the salaries was being prepared and soon payment would be made.

The court while directing the government to take action against those involved in the illegal appointments within 15 days adjourned further hearing.
