Islamabad: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday (today) rejected the government plea to allow action against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan while a written verdict will be issued later.
A five-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Umar Atta Bandial comprising Justice Aijaz Ul Ahsan, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Muzahir Ali Naqvi heard the government petition.
At the start of the hearing, the CJ said that we wanted to hear from Attorney General first after which the Attorney General read out the yesterday order of the SC while Imran Khan yesterday address was also run.
The CJ said that it is possible that Imran Khan has been informed wrong adding that the SC has to safeguard the constitutional rights.
Justice Umar Atta Bandial said that it has come to our knowledge that many places put on fire, arson and vandalism conducted while we have know that Law Enforcement Agencies resorted to shelling continuously.
The CJ said that people of Pakistan have rights under section 15, 16, 17 of the constitution adding that executives avoid illegal arrests and raids while he said that it should not be forgotten that the party (PTI) have held several rallies.
Attorney General apprised the court that complete security were provided to these rallies of PTI.
Chief Justice remarked that PTI should understand its responsibility towards the people of Pakistan adding that the PTI had to become a precedent and if matters run this way then the situation will be worst.
The CJ asked question from Attorney General, how many people got injured yesterday? to which he replied that 31 police officers were injured while the CJ again asked there will be injuries to masses as well as the crowd was very charged and were without any leadership.
The CJ said that the green belts were put on fire to avoid tear gas and the PTI leadership could only control the situation.
The CJ said that what happened yesterday was regretful and what happened yesterday also shattered the confidence of the court on the political parties.
The court had ordered to safeguard the people in the present case and political parties were also ordered to negotiate.
He said that the court going beyond its limit ordered in the present case which was only for the protection of the masses.
The CJ remarked further that we will release order of the case which could be become prescedent for the future. While the court disposed of the petitions of the government and Islamabad High Court.
