Islamabad: The Supreme Court Of Pakistan on Monday rejected a petition seeking an increase of minorities seats in National as well as provincial assemblies.
A divisional bench of SC headed by Justice Aijaz Ul Ahsan heard the petition pertaining to the increasing minorities in National and provincial assemblies.
The court retaining the verdict of Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected the petition.
The top court in its verdict said that for increasing the number of minorities seats in national and provincial assemblies there is a need of an amendment in the constitution and the court can’t order the parliament for an amendment in the constitution.
Justice Aijaz Ul Ahsan said that the SC and High courts have no rights to order the parliament for a constitutional amendment.
The petitioner viewed that the population of the country has skyrocketed owing to which parliament be ordered to raise the number of seats of minorities in National and provincial assemblies.
