SC Seeks Report Overseas Pakistanis ID Card Fee

Web Desk(March 26, 2018): Supreme Court has sought a report from the federal government over the fee charged from overseas Pakistanis for identity cards.

Hearing a case in Islamabad on Monday, a three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said that overseas Pakistanis should also be given right of vote.Meanwhile, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of a case pertaining to dual nationality of government officials till Thursday. The Director General of FIA informed the court that data of over one hundred and seventy-two thousand employees have been collected.

He said that six hundred and sixteen employees admitted the dual nationality, while one hundred and forty-seven employees kept concealed the information.

Talking to Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, the CJP said, “You people are much significant and have to lead the public. We are embarrassed when people have to refer courts for the solution of their problems.”“I also want to present a matter of public benefit in the court. Seven years ago, I got the approval of the formation of post-graduate college for boys and girls. The boys’ college has been constructed but the one for girls is still pending due to the court’s stay order,” replied Ahsan Iqbal.

“Do you think that the courts are your enemy? We will summon the file of this case. Give us the number of the stay order case, it might be possible that we issue directions ourselves,” remarked the Chief Justice.

“You are a responsible minister but have done nothing to assist the expatriates in voting,” he added.

The CJP directed Iqbal to take the matter of reducing NICOP fees to Prime Minister. He adjourned the hearing while summoning the report till Wednesday.
