SC to Review Petitions Challenging 26th Amendment

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has scheduled a hearing for October 7 to consider multiple petitions contesting the 26th Constitutional Amendment. 

Proceedings will commence at 11:30 AM before a larger bench comprising eight judges.

Justice Aminuddin Khan will preside over the bench, which includes Justices Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Ayesha Malik, Hassan Azhar Rizvi, Musarat Hilali, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Shahid Bilal.

The amendment in question was formally presented in the Senate on October 20, 2024, by Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar. 

The 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill proposes significant changes intended to overhaul the governance structure and reinforce the legal foundations of the state.
