KARACHI: Good news for students as the Sindh Education Department has announced a holiday on February 4th in observance of Shab-e-Baraat, a sacred night for worshippers.

The department has issued a formal notification stating that all educational institutions across the province will remain closed on Wednesday, February 4th, in honor of this holy night.

This holiday applies to both private and government schools within Sindh.

Shab-e-Baraat, often called the “Night of Records” or “Night of Salvation,” is a significant night in the Islamic lunar calendar, observed between the 14th and 15th of Shaban. In Pakistan, it is a night marked by deep spiritual reflection and hope, as people stay awake in prayer to seek Allah’s forgiveness and pray for a prosperous future. Many view it as a spiritual gateway leading into the holy month of Ramadan.

The night is observed with intense devotion and heartfelt remembrance across the country. Mosques are filled with worshippers participating in special prayers and vigils. A cherished tradition involves visiting cemeteries, where families pray at the graves of their loved ones and light incense, transforming cemeteries into peaceful spaces of reflection. This act of remembrance underscores the bond between the living and the departed, highlighting the importance of mercy, forgiveness, and spiritual renewal during this sacred night.
