Second round of talks between govt and JAAC Begins in Muzaffarabad over AJK Issues

MUZAFFARABAD: The ongoing efforts to resolve the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) took a significant step forward as the second round of negotiations commenced on Friday between a high-level government delegation and representatives of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). The discussions aim to address public grievances and find a peaceful resolution to the recent protests sweeping the region.

Appointed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the delegation is actively engaging with JAAC members to facilitate dialogue and explore legal avenues for addressing concerns.

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry shared images from the negotiations via his official X account, emphasizing that the process is ongoing. He stated, “The second round of talks has kicked off in Muzaffarabad between our delegation and JAAC representatives.”

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Kashmiri people’s rights, noting that many of JAAC’s demands particularly those aligned with public interests have already been accepted. Discussions continue on the remaining demands, which involve constitutional amendments.

Expressing optimism, Chaudhry added, “Violence is not the way forward. We hope the Action Committee will resolve all issues through peaceful dialogue.”

The delegation comprises prominent figures including Federal Ministers Sardar Muhammad Yusuf and Ahsan Iqbal, Senator Rana Sanaullah, former AJK President Masood Khan, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, and Amir Muqam.
