Section 144 enforced in Balochistan with face covering ban in public

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has declared the enforcement of Section 144 across the entire province for a duration of one month, implementing various restrictions to uphold law and order.

An official notification outlined the measures, which include prohibitions on the open display and use of firearms, riding two persons on a single motorcycle, tinted vehicle windows, and the operation of unregistered vehicles.

The authorities have also banned all types of public gatherings, such as rallies and processions involving five or more individuals, under the provisions of Section 144.

In a significant move, the government has also prohibited face covering in public areas during this period to enhance security and identification.

The notification emphasizes that these orders are effective immediately and that strict legal action will be taken against any violators.

Officials explained that the decision was prompted by recent security challenges, including attacks on police convoys, and aims to take proactive measures to safeguard the public.

Section 144 is frequently invoked in sensitive situations to curb unrest by restricting movement and assemblies.
