RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi district administration has issued a notification imposing Section 144 from August 4 through August 10, prohibiting all forms of processions, public gatherings, and rallies within the city limits. This measure aims to address security concerns amid heightened political tensions.
According to the official order issued by the Deputy Commissioner, the restriction has been put in place to prevent any potential damage to public and private property that could arise during the current volatile political environment, especially in light of upcoming protests.
The decision coincides with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) preparations for nationwide demonstrations protesting the ongoing detention of its founder and ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan. The main rally is expected to take place outside Adiala Jail, where Khan has been held for the past two years, raising apprehensions about possible unrest and clashes.
Authorities have emphasized that the deployment of Section 144 is a precautionary step to uphold law and order, safeguard citizens, and protect property during the protest period. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to rigorously enforce the restrictions, and legal measures will be enforced against violators, officials announced.
