Security forces foil terror attack detained female suicide bomber

QUETTA: Security forces in Balochistan have prevented a major attempt by arresting a female suicide bomber, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti announced.

Speaking at a press conference in Quetta alongside Home Minister Mir Zia Langove and other officials, Bugti commended the swift and coordinated response of security agencies. He described the operation as a major success in maintaining peace in the province.

Authorities identified the suspect as Laiba, a 19-year-old from Khuzdar District. During initial questioning, she disclosed that she had been recruited and indoctrinated for a suicide mission by a militant commander named Ibrahim. She also revealed her role in attempting to recruit and train other young women for similar attacks.

Bugti alleged that militant networks continue to find shelter in Afghanistan and are manipulating individuals, including women, through misleading narratives. He added that the people of Balochistan are rejecting extremism and actively assisting authorities by providing intelligence.

Security officials said the  was carried out on intelligence inputs, leading not only to the suspect’s arrest but also uncovering links to banned organizations such as the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). Investigations have also revealed connections with other facilitators and militant groups.

The chief minister noted that improved intelligence coordination has helped thwart several potential attacks in recent months, preventing significant loss of life. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and keeping security forces on high alert.

Bugti further emphasized the importance of awareness and community involvement to counter radicalization, particularly among youth and women. He said the government is prioritizing education and job opportunities to address the root causes of extremism.

Officials concluded by assuring that additional steps will be taken to strengthen law enforcement and ensure long-term peace across the province.
