Security forces kill 10 militants in Gwadar clashes; civilian dies

GWADAR: Ten militants, including a woman, were killed and a civilian was martyred in separate clashes with security forces in Balochistan’s Gwadar district, according to the military’s media wing, ISPR.

The statement said militants attempted attacks on October 22 near the Gabd border crossing and in Gwadar city. Security forces launched clearance operations and exchanged fire with the attackers, killing 10. The clashes also damaged several vehicles. No security personnel were reported injured, and operations have concluded, ISPR said.

The military described the attackers as India-sponsored and said they aimed to undermine state authority and disrupt development in Balochistan. It also alleged that a Baloch woman had been coerced into taking part in the attack.

ISPR said counterterrorism operations under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam framework would continue. The statement followed remarks by Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, who earlier said the army would act forcefully against India-backed militants.

Pakistan has reported increased militant activity in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021.
