Security guard opens fire at exchange office, young worker killed in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A tragic shooting incident in the I-8 sector of Islamabad claimed the life of a young office employee after a private security guard allegedly opened fire inside a money exchange office, police confirmed.

The victim, Danish Sagheer, died at the scene after sustaining gunshot wounds. Authorities identified the suspect as security guard Muhammad Umar, who was taken into custody immediately. The firearm used in the incident has also been recovered.

Initial statements from the suspect suggested the shooting was accidental. However, eyewitnesses and a video circulating online appear to contradict that claim, showing the guard loading a pump-action rifle moments before firing, raising suspicions of deliberate intent.

Law enforcement officials stated that a full investigation is underway, with all angles being examined before formal charges are finalized.

The incident has once again drawn attention to concerns surrounding the conduct and training of private security personnel. A similar case last month in Karachi’s North Nazimabad area also resulted in a fatality following an altercation involving a guard.

Security analysts warn that repeated incidents point to serious gaps in oversight, training standards, and regulation within the private security sector, calling for stricter enforcement to prevent further tragedies.
