Security pulled from Islamabad Judges without warning, police summoned to court

ISLAMABAD: In a sudden and controversial move, security personnel assigned to Islamabad’s district judges have been withdrawn, triggering alarm among judicial authorities and prompting swift legal action.

The unexpected decision included the removal of armed guards tasked with protecting judges, many of whom oversee sensitive and high-profile cases. The move has raised serious concerns over judicial safety and independence.

Reacting promptly, District and Sessions Judge Nasir Javed Rana issued a show-cause notice to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Security. The court questioned the rationale behind the abrupt security withdrawal and criticized the lack of prior consultation or justification.

The judge also summoned the DIG (Operations) to appear before the court in person today, demanding a comprehensive explanation for the move.

The removal of security has created unease within legal circles, particularly given the nature of the cases handled by Islamabad’s district courts. Legal professionals have expressed fears that the absence of protection could expose judges to undue risks and undermine their ability to perform their duties without intimidation.

Today’s court proceedings are expected to shed light on the reasoning behind the security decision and could determine whether protective measures for judges will be reinstated. The court’s swift intervention signals the seriousness of the matter, with top police officials now facing judicial scrutiny.

As the situation develops, attention remains fixed on how the government and law enforcement will respond to growing concerns over the protection of the judiciary.
