ISLAMABAD: The Senate Secretariat has officially issued a notification declaring the position of Leader of the Opposition vacant.
According to the notification issued by the Senate Secretariat, the Election Commission has disqualified and de-notified Shibli Faraz, and the seat of Leader of
the Opposition has been considered vacant since August 5.It is noteworthy that three days ago, the Election Commission had disqualified Shibli Faraz, along with eight other parliamentarians from PTI, after they were sentenced in cases related to May 9 incidents. The Commission also declared their parliamentary seats vacant.
Following the Election Commission’s decision, PTI leaders Shibli Faraz and Omar Ayub challenged their disqualification in the Peshawar High Court. The court has since stayed further action by the Election Commission regarding their cases.
