Senator Dr. Sania Nishtar resigned

ISLAMABAD: Dr. Sania Nishtar has resigned as senator, Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday accepted resignation, a representative of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Dr Sania, former special assistant to the prime minister on poverty alleviation and social safety, had resigned as senator a few months ago. She resigned after joining a Geneva-based international organization. She was elected to the Senate of Pakistan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2021. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has been informed about acceptance of her resignation and it will now announce election on this seat.

She served as a special assistant to the PM from May 2019 to April 2022, enjoying the status of a federal minister. During the time, she also remained chairperson of Ehsaas programme, the flagship social safety net and poverty alleviation programme launched by the PTI government.
