Seven killed in terrorist attack on peace committee office in Bannu

WEB DESK: Seven people were killed and two others wounded in an attack on the office of a local peace committee in Bannu on Friday, police reported. The armed assailants opened fire at the office of peace committee head Qari Jaleel, located within the jurisdiction of the Huved police station, before fleeing the scene.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi strongly condemned the attack, expressing profound grief over the loss of lives. He labeled the act as cowardly and inhumane, while extending his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and emphasizing shared sorrow during this tragic time.

The victims were identified as Danish, Kamran, Waliullah, Sufyan, Mohammad Niaz, Nauman, and another individual also named Sufyan. The bodies and wounded have been transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

Law enforcement agencies have initiated an investigation and sealed off the area to track down those responsible.

This incident occurs against a backdrop of escalating violence in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where peace committees have frequently been targeted by militant groups. Officials have yet to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
