Seven Players depart for England to participate in Champions Trophy

LAHORE (May 16, 2017) Seven players of Pakistan cricket team including Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez have on Tuesday departed for England to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy.

Imad Wasim, Umar Akmal, Junaid Khan, Fakhar Zaman and Fahim Ashraf are the others to have departed from Lahore. Ahmed Shehzad has not gone with the teammates due to personal reasons, and will join the squad a few days later.

The remaining members of one-day international (ODI) team will reach England from West Indies, as the Test series against the Windies concluded recently.

The mega event will be played from June 1 to 18, and the ten-day training camp of the Green Shirts will be held in Birmingham before the tournament.

Pakistan will play their first match of the ‘Mini World Cup’ against arch-rival India on June 4. The cricket enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for the mammoth clash between these two teams, and tickets have already been sold out.

Pakistan will also face Sri Lanka and South Africa in the pool matches. It is worth mentioning here that the good performance by Sarfraz XI in Champions Trophy will ensure their direct qualification for the 2019 World Cup.
