“Former PM alleges IHC’s bias, claims CJP intervened to protect ‘favourite’, while Shehbaz laments law’s weakness against the ‘watch sellers’.”
PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif criticized the Supreme Court and Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial for favoring PTI Chairman Imran Khan. The Islamabad High Court’s suspension of Khan’s sentence in the Toshakhana case marked a win for Khan, who had been sentenced to three years in jail and fined Rs100,000 by a lower court. Shehbaz claimed the IHC’s decision was influenced by the leniency shown by the apex court to Khan. He also highlighted a message from the Chief Justice to Khan, expressing concern about the transparency of the justice system.
Shehbaz Sharif criticized the courts for granting relief to Imran Khan and drew attention to the appointment of a monitoring judge to protect Khan. He condemned the sentence reversal, stating that history would remember this aspect of the justice system as a somber episode. He remarked that an imbalanced justice system that favors one side is unacceptable. Shehbaz pointed out the helplessness of the law against those with influence and questioned where justice would be found if even thieves and state terrorists were facilitated. He also lamented the excessive leniency shown to Khan and his party by the courts, highlighting incidents where their actions were forgiven.
