Lahore (June 28, 2018): Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday moved the Lahore High Court against an appellate election tribunal’s decision restraining them from contesting from NA-57, Murree and NA-67, Jhelum respectively.
In his plea, Abbasi has stated that the tribunal exceeded its authority when it disqualified the former premier for life.

Similarly, Chaudhry has said in his appeal that the tribunal’s decision was not based on facts.

Earlier, the appellate tribunal on June 27(yesterday) rejected nomination papers of former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for NA-57 and declared PTI’s Fawad Chaudry ineligible to contest polls from NA-67.
While announcing the verdict, Justice Ibad-ur-Rehman accepted all the objections of the plaintiff Masood Ahmad Abbasi and disallowed the ex-premier to contest the polls from this constituency.

The claimant, in his plea, stated that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi occupied small forest near Lawrence College while he had also mentioned the wrong price of his F7-II house in the papers.
Meanwhile, the tribunal also suspended returning officer after he accepted his mistake.
On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry was declared ineligible to contest the polls from NA-67.
The election tribunal was hearing an appeal against the acceptance of Chaudhry’s nomination papers by the returning officer, filed by Justice and Democratic Party’s Fakhar Abbas Kazmi.
Kazmi had objected, saying that Chaudhry had not paid agriculture tax on his land.
He had also stated that the PTI leader’s name on his identity card was listed as ‘Fawad Ahmad’.
Earlier, the Islamabad Election Tribunal on Tuesday allowed former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to contest the upcoming polls from the NA-53 Islamabad-II constituency.
The returning officer for Islamabad’s NA-53 constituency had rejected Abbasi’s nomination papers on June 19. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Abbasi did not complete the affidavit of the nomination forms.

Justice Moshin Akhtar Kayani, who was hearing the appeal, overruled the returning officer’s verdict.
