LAHORE: The death anniversary of the renowned newscaster Shakeel Ahmad from Radio Pakistan is observed today.
Shakeel Ahmad began his broadcasting career with All India Radio in Mumbai in 1937 as an announcer. By 1941, he had been transferred to the Delhi station, where he shifted focus from announcing to news reading.
After the independence of Pakistan, Shakeel Ahmad migrated to the newly formed country, where he made history by reading the inaugural Urdu news bulletin on Radio Pakistan in Lahore.
In recognition of his significant contributions to broadcasting, he was honored with the President’s Award for Pride of Performance.
