LAHORE: Pakistan’s Test captain, Shan Masood, has graciously declined the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) offer to serve as Consultant for International Cricket and Players Affairs, opting instead to dedicate himself entirely to his playing career.
Reports suggest that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently extended a verbal offer, recognizing Shan’s solid educational background and comprehensive understanding of the game. The role was designed to leverage his expertise while he continued as a senior player for the national team.
Shan Masood, however, requested to be excused from taking on the responsibility, citing the challenges of balancing an administrative position alongside the demands of international cricket. He expressed his intent to prioritize his playing career at this juncture, while also thanking the chairman for considering him for the role.
Sources reveal that Shan also apologized to Mohsin Naqvi for declining the offer. In response, the PCB chairman acknowledged Shan’s reasoning, offered his best wishes, and respected the decision.
It is noteworthy that the PCB had been eager to capitalize on Shan Masood’s expertise beyond the pitch, with discussions on his potential appointment as a consultant dating back to October. For now, Shan remains committed to leading Pakistan’s Test team, focusing entirely on his performance in the game.
