Sharifullah admits involvement in 2021 Kabul Airport terror attack

WEB DESK: Daesh Operative Sharifullah appears in Virginia Court for role in Kabul Airport suicide bombing.

Mohammad Sharifullah has admitted to plotting the route to the airport, where a suicide bomber subsequently detonated his explosives among large crowds attempting to escape shortly after the Taliban took control of Kabul, according to the Justice Department.

He did not enter a plea. His next appearance will be in the same courthouse on Monday, and he will stay in custody until then, the judge said.

The explosion at Abbey Gate resulted in the deaths of at least 170 Afghan individuals, in addition to 13 U.S. service members who were tasked with securing the perimeter of the airport.

Sharifullah — who the US says also goes by the name Jafar and is a member of the Daesh-Khorasan branch in Afghanistan — was detained by Pakistani authorities and brought to the US.

In an official statement, the Justice Department confirmed that Sharifullah has been arrested.
