Sharjeel Memon, 11 Others Indicted In Info Deptt Scam Case

Karachi (February 15, 2018): The accountability court on Thursday indicted Sharjeel Memon and 11 others in Information department advertisement scam case.

The court read out the allegations against the accused to which they denied their involvement in the case.

According to NAB, the accused persons are charged for embezzlement of Rs. 5,766,479,766 purportedly paid to seven advertising agencies for awareness campaigns between 2013 and 2015.

“The accused persons jointly and severally in connivance with each other have been alleged for awarding the contracts to favour certain advertising agencies and to their own favour, in violation of relevant laws and rules and against exorbitant rates,” it said.Earlier, Sharjeel Inam Memon on Thursday appeared before the accountability court in Karachi in Information department corruption case.

Memon was brought to the court amid strict security arrangements. Talking to media, Memon said that he would appeal Chief justice of Pakistan to take suo moto notice of discriminate behavior of NAB authorities.

“When I was abroad my name was added in the exit control list but I returned back,” he said adding on the contrary, Sharif family is free to roam despite being accused in NAB cases.“Now this question should be raised with Chaudhry Nisar as to if his leadership name be placed on ECL or not,” he said.

Responding to a query regarding Rao Anwar, the former minister said that the courts are there to decide on his case and it would be better for Rao Anwar to face cases against him.

Speaking regarding divisions among MQM, Memon said that although he had an ideological difference with MQM but it is better for them to unite.

He said that PPP is the best option for Karachiites, however, the PPP would continue to serve the people of the city whether they elect PPP or not.
