KARACHI: Sindh High Court has directed to remove the banners, posters and billboards from Karachi city within 15 days.
The Sindh High Court has issued an order to remove all billboards, banners, and posters from Karachi within 15 days, emphasizing the need for a cityscape free from visual clutter. The court addressing a persistent issue of billboards encroaching on public spaces, heard the case and acknowledged the petitioner’s concern. Despite a Supreme Court decision in 2016 regarding a ban on billboards, the petitioner highlighted the ongoing installation of billboards in public areas.
In a significant decision aligning with the Supreme Court’s directives, the Sindh High Court stressed the removal of all billboards, banners, and posters within the city limits within the specified time frame. The court further directed the Cantonment Executive to execute the order, instructing the Mayor of Karachi and Deputy Commissioners to actively participate in removing billboards from public spaces. Moreover the court urged the Cantonment Executive to coordinate with the SSBC for the execution of court orders.
Recognizing the importance of law enforcement, the court also instructed the police to take action against those responsible for erecting billboards and filing cases against them. A comprehensive report detailing the implementation of court orders is expected from the police after the enforcement process.
To ensure ongoing oversight and accountability, the court scheduled a further hearing of the case until January 18, indicating its commitment to monitoring the progress and effectiveness of the measures taken
