SHC Issues Notices To Respondents For Nov 15 In Case Pertaining To Billboards and Hoardings

Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday (today) in the case related to becoming respondents in billboards and hoardings has issued notices to the interior ministry, government of Sindh, director military lands, all the cantonments boards,, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), District Municipal Corporations (DMCs) and others.

A divisional bench headed by Justice Irfan Sadat Khan heard the petition to become respondents in the matters of billboards and hoardings.

A petitioner and the counsel of a private company barrister Farhan Ali Shah contended that our company agreement with the KMC is according to the rules and by-laws. While he apprised the court that these rules and by-laws were enacted after 2019 orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) and rules and by-laws were made keeping in view the orders of the SC.

The counsel added further that the SC in its 2019 orders has said that which ever rules be enacted keeping in mind the facility to the masses and protection of the environment.

He apprised the court that his client has padestarian bridges and they will not fall and all the advertisments put on the bridges are installed with care of public service and protection of the environment.

From behalf of the company, the informed the court that we made the pedestrian bridges beautiful which our company has and deputed security guards for day and night.

He went on to say, we also illuminated these bridges so that people could not face difficulty adding that we also ended drug mafia from these bridges.

The KMC also submitted its reply in the court and said that the KMC is gotten revenue from these agreements and we brokered these agreements by following by-laws made under the SC orders of 2019.

It is said that where the SC had ordered to remove the billboards it also directed us to make rules and by-laws.

The institutions made rules and by-laws which had approval of the cabinet, under which private companies were given contracts and al the documents have been provided to the court.
