Shehbaz Sharif to represent Pakistan at 80th UNGA session

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to lead Pakistan’s delegation at the high-level segment of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session, which commences in New York.

Joining him will be Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, along with other cabinet members and senior government officials. During his address to the General Assembly, the Prime Minister is expected to spotlight key global and regional issues from Pakistan’s perspective.

He will particularly emphasize the long-standing disputes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, calling upon the global community to act in support of self-determination and to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The Prime Minister will advocate for urgent international intervention to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

In addition, Shehbaz Sharif will discuss Pakistan’s stance on regional security, climate change, counter-terrorism, the rise of Islamophobia, and the need for sustainable development.

On the sidelines of the UNGA, the Prime Minister will participate in various high-level events, including meetings of the UN Security Council, a special session on Climate Action, and the High-Level Meeting of the Global Development Initiative.

He is also scheduled to engage in a select gathering of Islamic leaders in a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump to deliberate on matters concerning international and regional peace and security.

Bilateral meetings with world leaders and top UN officials are also on the agenda, providing an opportunity to exchange views on shared concerns and strengthen diplomatic ties.
