FAISALABAD: Sahibzada Hamid Raza, the head of the Sunni Ittehad Council, was brought before the anti-terrorism court after his detention and was subsequently remanded to prison. The Faisalabad ATC ordered his transfer to jail, and he was escorted under police protection.
The arrest took place while Sahibzada Hamid Raza was traveling from Peshawar to Faisalabad, with Islamabad Police detaining him. Sahibzada Hasan Raza, acting chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council, confirmed the arrest.
Earlier, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, a Member of the National Assembly, had been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Faisalabad Anti-Terrorism Court in connection with the May 9 incidents. The verdict, announced on July 31, 2025, was based on cases related to an attack on a sensitive government institution and charges filed at Ghulam Muhammadabad Police Station. In total, 108 individuals received varying sentences.
Among those convicted were prominent leaders such as Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Zartaj Gul, while Fawad Chaudhry, Zain Qureshi, and a few others were acquitted.
It is also noteworthy that Sahibzada Hamid Raza resigned from his position as Secretary of Information for Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Aain Pakistan earlier this September.
