‘Significant’ visit of Turkish President amid ‘Panama, Dawn leaks’ controversy

ISLAMABAD: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is arriving in Pakistan on two-day official visit next week which is being given much importance in the wake of tense political atmosphere in the country amid Panama Leaks and ‘Dawn Leaks’.

Diplomatic sources said that the Turkish President during his two day stay in Pakistan will hold important meetings with both civilian and military leadership. During the meeting matters of mutual interest, issues of bilateral relations and security situation of the region would come under discussion.

The sources said that the visit of Turkish leader at a time when Panama Leaks case against Prime Minister and his family was pending in SC and the issue of ‘Dawn Leak’ was live had much significance.

The Turk leader had earlier also played role for deescalation of political tensions and creating harmony among different institutions and the next week’s visit is also viewed in that context.

It is to be mentioned here that President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned the joint sitting on Nov 17. The Turkish president will address the joint session of the Parliament. After the address of the Turkish leader, President Hussain will also deliver a speech.

Later, the prime minister and Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Kurshid Shah will extend a vote of thanks to the guest.

During the visit, several cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding are expected to be signed.
