KARACHI: Salaries and allowances of the members of the Sindh Assembly have been increased from 150,000 to 400.000 PKR.
A bill proposing an increase in the salaries of assembly members was presented in the Sindh Assembly, which was unanimously approved.
Following the passage of the bill, a parliamentary committee was formed, headed by the Assembly Speaker Owais Shah, with representatives from all parties, including Opposition Leader Ali Khursheed.
The parliamentary committee’s meeting was held in the committee room of the Sindh Assembly, where all party-nominated members participated. After consultations, the decision was made to increase the salaries by 200%. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supported the salary increase, while Jamaat-e-Islami opposed it.
Currently, the members’ salaries, including allowances, are around 155,000 PKR. After the committee’s decision, the salaries and allowances will rise to approximately 4.5 lakh PKR, with the basic salary increasing from 50,000 PKR to 300,000 PKR.
Additionally, it was decided to increase the office maintenance allowance to 15,000 PKR, telephone allowance to 10,000 PKR, house rent allowance to 50,000 PKR, mobile allowance to 10,000 PKR, utility allowance to 20,000 PKR, daily allowance from 1,000 to 3,000 PKR, and conveyance allowance from 1,000 to 3,000 PKR.
