Sindh cabinet briefed about preparation for census

KARACHI: Chief Statisticians/Chief Census Commissioner Asif Bajwa and Director General National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) briefed Sindh cabinet on the population census which is scheduled to start from March 15, 2017.

The Sindh cabinet meeting was held here with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in the chair.

Briefing the meeting,  Bajwa said that in the first phase census will be carried out in Karachi, Hyderabad and Ghotki for which training of trainers  would be held from January 24 to 27.

In first phase the population census in Sindh will be held in Karachi, Hyderabad and Ghotki districts of the province.

During the meeting, Sindh CM asked Bajwa whether those without CNIC would be counted during the census. The chief minister was told that those individual will be counted and would be marked as without CNIC. He was further told that if anyone from a family had CNIC then the whole family would be counted.

NADRA officials told the meeting that some 4.22 million people had been issued CNICs in Sindh while 3.3 million people were below the age of 18 years.

The cabinet discussed issued relating to law and order, population census, price control and other Bills.
