Sindh Cabinet orders public release of Mir Raza probe report

KARACHI: The Sindh Cabinet has approved making the judicial commission’s report on the murder of entrepreneur Mir Raza public and directed officials to upload the document to the Home Department’s website.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House on Tuesday.

The report, compiled by a judicial commission headed by Justice Umar Sial, will be made publicly available following the cabinet’s approval. The chief minister also ordered authorities to immediately provide a copy of the findings to Mir Raza’s family.

To oversee the implementation of the commission’s recommendations, Murad Ali Shah constituted a special committee comprising Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani and the Sindh Advocate General.

The report was presented before the cabinet in seven separate envelopes.

The development comes a day after Mir Raza’s father, Mir Hussain, demanded the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate his son’s murder.

Speaking to the media outside a court alongside his lawyer, advocate Jibran Nasir, Mir Hussain accused police of negligence in handling the investigation, saying the judicial commission’s findings had reinforced the family’s longstanding concerns.

He urged Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Faryal Talpur to ensure the report was handed over to the family and made public after the cabinet meeting.

Mir Hussain also called for strict departmental and legal action against police officials found responsible for lapses in the investigation. He said the family had repeatedly drawn attention to shortcomings in the police investigation through the media.

According to him, the commission’s proceedings had substantiated the family’s concerns, strengthening their demand for accountability and a fresh investigation into the killing.
