KARACHI: On Tuesday, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori declined to provide interim relief to Moonis Alvi, CEO of K-Electric, in connection with a workplace harassment complaint.
According to an official statement from the Governor’s House, a comprehensive hearing regarding the case of Moonis Alvi versus Mahreen Aziz Khan has been scheduled for August 11, 2025 (Monday).
Ayaan Memon, representing Moonis Alvi, issued a statement indicating that the hearing at the Governor House was postponed due to the complainant’s counsel not having access to the complete case file. “The request for adjournment was made to allow for further preparation, and the hearing has been rescheduled to a later date,” he explained.
Previously, on July 31, 2025, the Sindh Provincial Ombudsman, Justice (Retd) Shah Nawaz Tariq, ordered the removal of Moonis Alvi from his role as K-Electric’s CEO and imposed a fine of Rs 2.5 million after allegations of harassment were substantiated. In a recent development, the Governor’s Office announced that it has refused to grant a temporary stay on the Ombudsman’s order, emphasizing the importance of due process. Instead, a full hearing has been scheduled for August 11, where both sides will have the opportunity to present their arguments.
The legal team representing the complainant, Mahreen Aziz Khan, expressed satisfaction with the Governor’s decision to uphold procedural fairness, stating, “Justice must be both done and seen to be done.”The case originated from allegations made by Mehreen Zehra, a former Chief Marketing Officer at K-Electric, who claimed that Moonis Alvi subjected her to harassment and mental distress during her consultancy engagement with the company in 2019. After an investigation, the Ombudsman found the allegations credible and ordered Alvi’s removal, along with a penalty payable within a month. The order also warned that non-compliance could lead to the seizure of assets and blocking of his ID card and passport.
