KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced a two-day public holiday in honor of Diwali, one of the most revered festivals for the Hindu community in the region.
As per the official notification, holidays will be observed on October 20 and 21 Monday and Tuesdaycovering the entire province.
This decision provides Hindu workers and families with an extended window to celebrate the festival, encouraging participation in religious rituals, family gatherings, and cultural activities with enthusiasm and devotion.
The notification, issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department (SGA&CD), specifies that the days off will apply to all government departments, autonomous agencies, semi-autonomous organizations, local councils, and municipal bodies under the jurisdiction of the Sindh government.
The measure ensures consistent observance throughout Sindh, enabling Hindu residents in both urban and rural areas to honor their religious traditions without work-related concerns. It also includes municipal offices, district councils, and other local institutions.
Known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali signifies the victory of light over darkness and goodness over evil. Celebrations typically involve prayers, lighting lamps, sharing sweets, and engaging in lively cultural events. For Sindh’s Hindu population one of the largest in Pakistan Diwali carries profound spiritual, social, and cultural significance.
