Sindh govt introduces Work-from-Home policy for public offices on Fridays

KARACHI: The Government of Sindh has announced that employees in government institutions will work from home on Fridays as part of measures aimed at addressing the current regional situation and energy shortages.

During a press briefing in Karachi, senior provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the move is intended to reduce fuel usage and ease the burden on energy supplies.

He also revealed that members of the provincial cabinet have decided to give up their salaries and benefits for three months. According to the decision, ministers will not receive pay for April, May, and June.

The minister further said that educational institutions will remain closed from March 16 to March 31, while examinations will continue according to the already announced timetable.

Sharjeel Memon explained that Fridays will not be declared public holidays for government offices; instead, staff will carry out their duties remotely from home. He added that ministers have returned their police security vehicles, and the government has placed a ban on the purchase of new official vehicles and office furniture.

As part of austerity measures, serving refreshments in government offices has also been suspended for two months.

The provincial minister emphasized that conserving fuel is a key priority for the government. He said a meeting with transporters will be held tomorrow to discuss the issue.

He added that the recent rise in petroleum prices has placed additional pressure on the public. Authorities have already taken action against transporters who raised fares without approval, and several individuals have been arrested.
