KARACHI: The Sindh Minimum Wages Board has recommended an Rs3,000 hike in the minimum monthly wage for workers across various sectors in the province.
The proposal, submitted to the Sindh government, suggests raising the base salary from Rs37,000 to Rs40,000, reflecting an 8.1% increase. This adjustment will be applicable to unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled workers in approximately 60 different industries, effective from July 1, 2025.
The recommendations were officially published in the Sindh Government Gazette by Mohammad Naeem Mangi, Secretary of the Sindh Minimum Wages Board. The notification invites public objections within a 14-day window.Under the proposed revision, the minimum wage for semi-skilled workers would be Rs41,280, for skilled workers Rs48,910, and for highly skilled workers Rs50,868. The notice emphasizes that these figures are the minimum standards and not the ceiling; employers are permitted to pay higher wages based on factors such as experience, regional cost of living, or other relevant considerations.
Employers may continue paying higher amounts either independently or through collective bargaining, provided the existing wages are not decreased. The new minimum rates will be applicable to full-time, time-based employees, including temporary and piece-rated workers, starting from the date the notification is issued by the Labour & Human Resources Department of Sindh.
Meanwhile, the federal government has announced a 10% salary increase for its employees, including armed forces and civil armed forces personnel, as part of the 2025-26 budget. A formal notification from the Ministry of Finance confirms that this raise will also be extended to contract-based employees, along with a 10% increase in pensions.
