Sindh University Dadu campus official removed after viral video footage

DADU: The Sindh government has taken action against Professor Azhar Shah, the in-charge of Sindh University’s Dadu campus, following the circulation of videos on social media depicting him in an unsteady state.

The videos, which show the campus official struggling to maintain balance and appearing intoxicated, sparked widespread criticism and allegations, including inappropriate language and disruptions to academic proceedings.

In a formal letter to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Sindh Minister for Universities and Boards, Ismail Rahoo, stated that several videos involving Professor Shah had been circulated online, damaging the reputation of the institution.

Rahoo ordered the immediate suspension of the professor and instructed that an official investigation be launched to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident. The minister emphasized that the inquiry would be carried out in accordance with legal procedures, ensuring the accused is given fair opportunity to respond.

The investigation must be completed within 15 days, with a comprehensive report, including findings and recommendations, to be submitted to the minister and university authorities. The matter will also be reviewed by the university’s syndicate for further action as deemed appropriate.

Multiple reports from faculty members and student representatives indicate that the circulating videos consist of various clips taken at different times rather than a single incident. Witnesses have alleged that the official appeared intoxicated, behaved incoherently during classes, and engaged in inappropriate conduct and

harassment towards students while under the influence.

The situation escalated when faculty and students boycotted classes, prompting intervention from Rahoo. University officials clarified that the official was removed from his position rather than merely suspended.

An inquiry into the matter is being led by a three-member committee, headed by Dr. Javed, Dean of Business and Commerce at Sindh University.
