ISLAMABAD: An attack carried out by militants with alleged links to India resulted in the martyrdom of six Pakistani security personnel and the death of five terrorists in Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The ISPR reported that the assault targeted the FC Headquarters in Bannu, where five armed attackers tried to breach the perimeter. They also rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the boundary wall, causing part of it to collapse. The explosion damaged nearby civilian infrastructure and wounded three civilians.
Pakistani security forces responded swiftly and with precision, engaging the militants and eliminating all five attackers, described as affiliates of the Indian-backed group, Fitna al Khwarij.
The military’s media wing confirmed that a clearance operation in the area is ongoing, and those responsible for the attack will face justice. The ISPR emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to countering terrorism, stating that sacrifices made by soldiers and civilians bolster the nation’s resolve to eliminate Indian-sponsored terrorism from its soil. The statement reaffirmed that security forces remain determined to protect the country at all costs.
Since 2021, Pakistan has experienced an increase in terrorist incidents, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. A recent report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) highlighted that in June alone, there were 78 terrorist attacks resulting in over 100 deaths, including 53 security personnel, 39 civilians, and six militants. The month also saw 189 injuries, with security forces bearing the majority.
Operations against terrorists are ongoing, including targeted actions in KP’s Bajaur and recent successful eliminations of 47 Indian-backed militants attempting to infiltrate from Afghanistan during operations in Balochistan’s Zhob district. Pakistan remains committed to fighting terrorism and safeguarding its sovereignty amid ongoing threats.
